The first people's 12 is a required 4 credit course for grade 12s to graduate. In First Peoples 12, one of the biggest things you learn is how important stories and culture are to Indigenous communities. Everything connects to the land, the people, and the past. It’s not just about history or old traditions. It’s about how those teachings still guide people today.

Overall, this course helps you see things in a new light. It’s not just about learning facts or history. It’s about understanding people and their connection to everything around them. You start realizing that there are many ways to see the world, and that’s something really powerful.
A big part of First Peoples learning is understanding respect. Respect for the land, for each other, and for different ways of thinking. In Western culture, people often see land as something to own or use. But in Indigenous perspectives, the land is alive and part of who you are. It teaches lessons and deserves care. That idea really changes how you see the world once you think about it.

First Peoples 12 also makes you think about reconciliation. Learning about residential schools and how much harm they caused can be really heavy. But it also shows the strength of Indigenous people and how they continue to keep their culture alive. It makes you want to do better, listen more, and be part of change.

Another big theme is storytelling. Stories aren’t just entertainment. They teach morals, history, and identity. For example, creation stories explain how the world came to be, but they also teach about responsibility and balance. You start realizing that storytelling is a form of knowledge, not just something passed around for fun.
